Types of headlights: incandescent lamps

Evolution of modern vehicles includes not only development of technically more complex and more perfect cars with different functions necessary to improve safety and comfort, when driving, but also application of even more innovative solutions in all automotive nodes. One of the most demonstrative nods in this sense is headlamps, since new solutions have been invented in structure thereof, technologies like incandescent lamps irreversibly becoming history.

Historically, incandescent lamp is the oldest lighting technology, but it has still been installed in retro-cars. Those are analogue to ordinary household incandescent lamp, which consists of welded glass bulb with tungsten arc inside. The technology is almost completely superseded by better solutions.

Advantages:

  • Cheaper manufacturing,
  • Easy to install.

Disadvantages:

  • Insufficient power to illuminate the road,
  • Yellow light spectrum, which is not optimal for good visibility,
  • High sensitivity to mechanical influence, trembling and vibration,
  • Very short length of service,
  • Sensibility to sharp changes of voltage, which affects intensity of light beam,
  • High consumption of energy, causing increased load to battery and generator,
  • Become dark quickly during exploitation because of evaporation of tungsten from incandescence filament and sedimentation thereof on the wall of glass bulb.

Because this technology has completely grown obsolete, and it has no advantages, we do not offer incandescent lamps to customers in our web shop.
