Types of headlights: LED lamps and matrix headlights

LED rear lights have been considered as something common for a long time, and they became popular thanks to bright light and possibility to create different design solutions in field of car arrangements. However, ultra-bright light diodes, emitting the white light, have been used in headlights only since 2007.

Each single light-emitting diode element has insufficient power of beam of light; therefore, large number of elements has been used in headlights. Such construction has another important advantage: lamps still work and illuminate the road, even if several light elements burn out.

Because of long term of service, high economy, strength, possibility of adjustment and application in adaptive lights, LED lights bear large potential to acquire the most widespread application. Currently, the main obstacle in this respect is still the high price of lights and necessary additional electronic equipment. Therefore, we may not expect appearance of lights of this type in all cars of economy class until manufacturing technologies become less expensive.

Another, even more new, option of headlights is matrix headlights, where you can separately adjust power and direction of the beam of light of each single light diode. It shall guarantee maximally possible level of safety for the driver, and for the cars moving towards yours, and pedestrians, because car computer systems receive an opportunity to adjust direction and power of lighting of headlights depending on traffic situation.

Advantages:

  • Long term of service (more than 10000 hours),
  • Bright beam of light, not dazzling drivers moving towards you,
  • Almost do not darken within term of use, and bear stable indicators of the beam of light within entire service,
  • High speed of reaction,
  • Very low energy consumption,
  • Absence of high heating,
  • Resistance against change in temperatures,
  • Possibility to adjust the beam of light,
  • Possibility to install into adaptive headlights,
  • Consist of large number of light diodes, therefore, fault of any single diode will not affect the headlight in general,
  • Insensitive to vibration and mechanical effects,
  • Small size,
  • Possibility to install into plastic headlights.

Disadvantages:

  • High price,
  • Without operating management system, beam of light falls lower than indicators of halogen lamps (except for the most premium versions of lamps),
  • Additional systems of stabilisation of voltage are necessary, because of sensitivity to significant changes in voltage,
  • It is necessary to install light washers, because low heating level does not facilitate cleaning of lights.
